Program Overview

ACT & SAT

Since 2001, IHL has offered best-in-class SAT and ACT tutoring. Our program is effective, comprehensive, and custom-tailored to the needs of each student. IHL Founder and Managing Partner Mayssoun Bydon has spent the past two-plus decades building a team of leading experts who have refined a comprehensive and flexible curriculum. Using an ever-evolving list of third-party sources and officially released SAT and ACT exams, IHL tutors teach students strategies for tackling each section of the exam, while also incorporating effective time-management and general test taking strategies to help students of every skill level achieve the highest score possible.

Both of my children studied with IHL for the SAT. Neither was a great test taker when they came to IHL, but after a few short months both were seeing major increases in their scores. Not only did they improve on the SAT, they also learned valuable lessons on time management and studying techniques. I would absolutely recommend IHL for all of your test prep needs.

To get started, complete a brief contact form. Our Chief of Staff Alex Kopko will contact you to discuss your goals and needs and get you started with a more detailed enrollment form

Generally, the preparation process begins with a diagnostic exam that you will take at home. Along with these results, we also consider factors such as learning style, learning disabilities, budget, strengths, weaknesses and goals before matching you with a tutor best suited to your individual needs.
You can work with a junior, senior or chair-level tutor. Once you have been placed with a tutor, he or she will contact you to schedule your first session. While all of our tutors are fluent in IHL’s proven teaching methodologies, they are also flexible, dynamic educators who are able to adapt to a wide variety of individual learning styles.
Our tutors work around your schedule and can meet in person at one of our offices or remotely via Skype or Zoom. The majority of our students meet remotely, and we have found it to be as effective as in-person consultation. The length of sessions, number of sessions, and frequency of sessions is up to you and your tutor! Sessions are usually 1.5 to 2 hours in length, twice a week, for at least four months leading up to a SAT or ACT administration. Some students who are looking for fine-tuning will require less time.

Outside of tutoring sessions, you should expect to dedicate a significant amount of time to session review, homework, practice exams and other drills.

Our Tutors

Our tutors are not study buddies. They are passionate, experienced, and dedicated instructors who have typically scored in the 99th percentile on an official administration of the relevant exam. The majority are currently attending or have graduated from top academic institutions including Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, NYU, Penn, Michigan, Yale, Stanford and others.

Attacking the SAT/ACT

Above all, our tutors are teachers first! They know how to reach and motivate students to modify how they think about the exam. They understand that no two students are the same and are flexible in their approach in order to deliver the best results.

Questions About ACT & SAT Prep

In a perfect world, we would love to start the studying process with you the summer after your sophomore year or beginning of junior year. But of course, we are happy to help you at any stage of your high school career and can begin working with you at any point leading up to your test. Please expect to take the test a couple of times!
Tutoring is billed on an hourly basis and the rate depends on the tutor’s seniority level. There is no minimum number of tutoring hours required to enroll with IHL. Our coursepacks and other materials are billed separately. Contact our Chief of Staff, Alex Kopko, to discuss your options.
Wherever you are in the world, you can take advantage of our program. SAT and ACT tutoring is available in-person at our offices in New York City or Ann Arbor, or remotely via Skype, Zoom, FaceTime or other videoconferencing platforms. The majority of our students study with us remotely, and we have found it to be as effective as in-person consultation.
IHL students are supported by a cohort of world class tutors, consultants, and administrators to ensure their study journey is a smooth one. We are a results-driven, one-stop-shop for test prep, academic support, and admissions consulting. Our administrative team takes the time to place each student with the tutor that will be the best match for their needs, and the tutor-student relationship remains paramount throughout the process. Our tutors are not study buddies, and instead develop and follow real lesson plans in a custom-tailored course format that strives to help each student achieve the best possible result.
